National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) Coming to Darby Township

The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), conducted by the CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), is currently taking place in select areas across the country — and portions of Delaware County, including the Township of Darby, have been randomly selected to participate.

NHANES is the only nationally representative health study that combines in-home interviews with professional health exams to gather vital information about the health and nutritional status of adults and children in the U.S. The data collected help shape important national public health policies and programs.

From mid-July through the end of September, professional interviewers and medical staff will be working in our area. Some local residents will be randomly selected to participate in the survey. Selected individuals may receive:

  • In-home interviews about health and behavior

  • Phone interviews about nutrition and diet

  • A free health exam at the NHANES Mobile Exam Center

  • Compensation for participation and travel/childcare expenses
